Environment protection

We work to always improve by reducing the effect on the environment by streamlining resources and products that might release contaminants to the environment, together with significant financial investments in environmental projects and enterprises to reduce our impact on the environment. Also, as a learning organization that aspires to excellence, we perform constant control and monitoring of the impact of our actions on the environment, learn lessons and apply conclusions.
It’s important to emphasize that we make sure to properly handle materials expelled to the environment in accordance with strict Israeli and international standards.
We perform training for environmental awareness, preserving nature for us and future generations.
All managers and employees in the group are committed to complying with all laws and regulations on environment protection and commitment to the community and the environment.


We view recycling as a value and waste as a resource for growth. Via the subsidiary Amnir recycling, the largest recycling body in Israel, we collect and treat over 400,000 tons of raw material a year, transferring it for recycling at the paper mill instead of being sent to a landfill. Yes, you read that right.
We invest great resources in adjusting unique tools for collecting, compressing, and condensing materials while handling effective mobilization from client sites to recycling mills – even in recycling our clients are in the center. We always examine innovation and advanced solutions to streamline and protect the environment.

Air quality

In 2007, we performed a strategic-unprecedented move to convert energy production on the group site in Hadera from mazut to natural gas.

The strategic project included converting all boilers on-site to using natural gas, installing appropriate infrastructure, converting the mill’s main boiler, and replacing main production parts in the paper machines to fit the use of natural gas.
In 2020, after several years of investment and planning, the subsidiary Carmel Frenkel also converted the company site to using natural gas.
This transition to natural gas significantly improves the quality of the air the mill workers and the area’s residents breathe and allows us to meet strict international air emission standards.

Treatment of wastewater

For years now we have seen water resources and treating it a strategic value. We invest greatly in building the most advanced treatment arrays together and using advanced technologies to treat water in the paper machine arrays. These actions, together with increasing awareness among workers and managers, have led to us saving about 70% in water consumption to produce a ton of paper! Also, using innovative technologies to treat sewage, we can return about a quarter of the mill’s sewage water to the paper manufacturing process as an alternative to freshwater.

Using the water as part of the paper manufacturing process helped us become a leader for many years in developing solutions relating to the treatment of sewage and wastewater. The most advanced treatment systems in Israel are installed and operated in our mill, which includes 3 treatment stages:
Pre-treatment of sewage – drum filters allowing filtering solids.
Biological treatment – aerobic and anaerobic facilities to disassemble organic material.
Tertiary treatment- lime softening using the Crystalactor advanced method, preliminary sedimentation, sand filters, and a sewage disinfection system.
Due to the great quality of the treated wastewater created in these treatment facilities, the mill was permitted by the Ministry of Environmental Protection to flow the water to the Hadera river under the strictest instructions and requirements, and of course, allows us to return some of the water to the manufacturing facilities as an alternative to freshwater.

Waste from the production process

The paper recycling process emits small paper fiber particles that cannot be used to produce paper, which is a main component of the waste that remains at the end of the process. This recycled waste is converted to secondary uses and is integrated into agriculture and is not put in the ground. Waste treatment leads to saving in raw materials and contributes to protecting the environment.
